Mary A. Alonso knows retail from the selling floor to the web page. From management roles for some of the most successful retailers and catalogers (Nordstrom, Spiegel Brands, FULLBEAUTY Brands, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s), she understands the synergies of customers, product, promotions, processes and systems. As a result, she quickly sees the “big picture” to drive strong financials.
Ms Alonso began her career in department store retailing and transitioned into market research when she learned how data can be made actionable, leading to smart business decisions. Drawn by her passion for product, she leveraged a strong foundation in business analytics to transition from marketing and assortment planning to buying, merchandising and product development.
Her desire to share her knowledge and experience to help future fashion industry leaders led her to become an Adjunct Professor in the fashion undergraduate program at Berkeley College. To prepare prospective merchants for today’s retail environment, she developed a course in Omni-Channel Merchandising for FIT’s Continuing and Professional Studies division, where she continues as the instructor.
She pursues her passion for helping professionals with their career and business endeavors as a Mentor in the TwoTen Women in Footwear Industry (WIFI) Mentor program.
Ms. Alonso holds an M.B.A. in Marketing from Pace University and earned a B.A. in Psychology from Douglass College (Rutgers University).
